Feb 25, 2012 - Dame Fashola Charges Residents, Wives Of Elected Officers On Sanitation

Lagos State First Lady, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola led scores of wives of elected officers of the State to participate in the February sanitation exercise, saying it was to motivate residents to clean their environment.

She said, "Among us we have wives of senators, members of house of representatives and house of assembly to clean part of Mushin Local Government Area."

She posited that the gathering of the wives for the exercise a way to lead other women and residents to participate in the monthly cleaning exercise.

"If we can leave our homes to do environment sanitation in Mushin, I think it will go a long way in showing good example to voluntarily lure the residents to join us. I don't see why others will not do so. All of us are part of the government and we need to do something to build a good State we love to live in," she said.

However, the First Lady expressed her displeasure with residents who habitually litter the environment, saying that the State Ministry of Environment would not hesitate to prosecute them.

"We have provided the necessary facilities and bags into which residents will put their garbage and anybody who flouts the government environmental order will face the penalty," she said.
