Jan 30, 2012 - Leave Your Shops For Cancer Screening, Dame Fashola Advises Market Women

First Lady of Lagos State, Dame Emanuella Fashola has called on market women to always abandon their primary duties of trading for good health services being provided by Lagos Government.

She made this call during the breast cancer awareness programme organised by the state Ministry of Health in Oshodi Local Government Area of the state.

She said, "No amount of money that you have made while selling can solve problem of cancer when it comes. Many people have died. Many have sold their property and still can't cure the disease. This is because they failed to respond to the call of government on cancer screening."

She explained that only healthy trader could sell at the market while urging them to always hearken to the call on medical service, which is being given by government free of charge.

"Please let us create time to take care of our health. Let us remember that health is wealth," she said.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina has posited that living a good and healthy life would depend on how the traders had taken care of themselves.

She urged the market women to visit hospital regularly for checkup on condition of their health while also advising them to stop the bad habit of self medication.

She commended the effort of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in the ongoing fight against breast cancer. She said, "Beyond the flag off, our health facilities will be used to examine this cancer for free. It is a killer disease, encourage the women to move out en mass for the screening".
