• “If I have to do it again, it must be Abimbola”, says her husband


The First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, Tuesday celebrated her 45th Birthday in style with her husband, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) expressing gratitude to her for letting him be himself.

In his goodwill speech at the occasion, Governor Fashola, who described the First Lady as “Pure Irresistible Pleasantness”, declared, “it is difficult to find words to describe the relationship that we share, but in truth, if I have to do it again, it must be Abimbola”.

Giving a recap of some of the qualities that maker his wife irresistible to him, the Governor said, “Since I met her, my life has headed northwards. She bears the burden, and it is a huge burden, of being my wife with smiles. She is a micro manager, knowing everything that is happening in every department of the house”.

In his own speech, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the First Lady as highly religious and full of life adding that she has been a pillar of support to both her husband and all the stakeholders in the project of transformation of Lagos.

Asiwaju, who also gave a recap of her reaction at being told that her husband had been chosen to be the Governor of Lagos State, said though she was very reluctant to let her husband go, she has done extremely well both as a mother and as First Lady of Lagos State.

“It is not easy to mother children and also play the role of First Lady, but since you stepped into it, you have done extremely well”, Asiwaju Tinubu said adding that he has no doubt that she will continue to provide the needed support till the end.

Responding to all the goodwill speeches including those made by other family members, friends and well wishers at the occasion, Mrs. Fashola said the occasion afforded her the opportunity to reflect on the few years as First Lady promising that she would continue to do her best to give support to her husband.

The First Lady, who said she had always celebrated her birthdays quietly with close relations and friends, said she was taken completely by surprise by those who planned the elaborate ceremony including her husband and children.

The First Lady, however thanked all guests including those who organized the event saying she would cherish the occasion for a very long time to come as she was not likely to overcome its surprise’.

The occasion, which took place at the City Hall Lagos was attended by many dignitaries including the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan, the Head of Service, Alhaji Yakub Balogun, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwanu Akiolu 1, dignitaries from Europe and America and top government functionaries.
