It was with great delight that I received the invitation of Rotarian Victoria Folashade Thomas-Fahm on behalf of the Rotary Club of Victoria Island to formally commission this state of the art Kidney Dialysis Centre being donated to General Hospital Lagos. It is indeed a great humanitarian gesture in the true spirit of Rotary, which I wish to commend on behalf of Lagos State Government. In the past few decades, we have witnessed increase in the cases of kidney related diseases that have continued to result in loss of precious lives of both young and old. Management of kidney failure through dialysis is a very expensive process which many of the patients cannot afford. The donation of this Centre by the Rotary Club of Victoria Island is therefore a very commendable act which will help in preventing avoidable loss of lives due to kidney related diseases.
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Victoria Island and indeed the state government, I want to acknowledge the huge support and contribution of Alhaji Aliko Dangote Foundation towards making this project a reality. Our gratitude is also extended to everyone who have contributed in various ways towards this centre particularly Mrs. Iyabo Atta whom I am informed was the first to open the window of donation for this project.
May I use this opportunity to call on kind hearted individuals and well meaning organisations to draw inspiration from this example by lending a hand of support for the efforts of the government to make life more meaningful to all. No contribution is too small or too big as long as it will make a positive impact on the people and the society as a whole.
Once again, I commend Rotary Club of Victoria Island and everyone that has contributed to making this Kidney Dialysis Centre a reality. May God continue to bless and reward you bountifully.
