Dec 5, 2009 - 10th Year Anniversary Seminar Of The Real Woman Foundation

I feel very delighted and honoured by the invitation of the President/Founder of the Real Woman Foundation, Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi and members of her team to be part of the 10th anniversary celebration of this organisation.

As we join in the celebration of a decade of dedicated service in support of women and children the society have labelled outcasts and social miscreants who have been transformed by the love and care they have received from Pastor Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi and her Real Women Foundation team.

It is particularly commendable to note that the Foundation has been able to rehabilitate 84 women and established an orphanage through which 32 children have been rescued and provided with shelter and most importantly care and love.

This accomplishment has been made possible through the efforts of an individual who has contributed personally to the progress and well being of this society.

It is also a demonstration of how not to engage in lamenting about the ills of the society without taking positive steps or initiating ideas that will assist in changing the situation for good.

While it is true that government has the responsibility for quite a number of things including promoting the social well being of the society, the fact remains that no government can achieve its set goals alone without partnerships and contributions of private organisations and individuals.

Today, women in particular are faced with different challenges ranging from lack of economic power, abuse, gender inequality, low self esteem to health issues.

Some of these challenges, in some cases have been so overwhelming that they have resulted in cases of social vices and unacceptable lifestyles that are now very prevalent in our society.

As women who understand the negative consequences of this unfortunate situations on the social fabrics of the society particularly the family institution, we owe it a duty to ourselves and for the preservation of woman dignity to show concern and bring about positive changes. One of the ways we can intervene as the Real Woman Foundation has demonstrated in the past 10 years is offering a hand of support and encouragement to women and children who have suffered abuse or whose life circumstances have lured them into anti-social behaviours.

If every woman takes it as a duty to be her sister’s keeper by offering assistance to one another, we will achieve very appreciable progress in protecting our dignity and reducing the prevalent social ills within our society.

I congratulate once again, the President/Founder of The Real Woman Foundation and pray that God almighty will continue to bless your efforts as you renew your commitment to giving succour to disillusioned women and children in our society.

Wishing everyone merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Thank you and God bless you all.

Mrs. Abimbola Fashola
