Nov 28, 2009 - Lagos First Lady Flags Off Silver Jubilee Anniversary Of LTV Christmas Funfair
• Urges Lagos women to be innovative and creative
Lagos First Lady, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, at the has flagged off Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the Lagos Television Christmas Funfair with a call on women in the State to be innovative and creative in order to leave a legacy for posterity.
Mrs. Fashola, who spoke while presenting an Award and some gift items to Mrs. Kate Ajinwunmi Omitosi, the initiator of the Funfair twenty five years ago, said the Fair represents commitment and dedication of Mrs. Omitosi to her vision which, according to her, has become a celebration in the State.
She expressed joy that the initiator thought about the Funfair as a way to bring joy to the children of Lagos State pointing out that although she may not have thought it would blossom so wide in future, the Fair has developed to a centre of entertainment for not only Lagos Children but children outside the State.
“I am sure that when you started this, you never thought it would last this long, but today, it is that your little idea that we are celebrating”, the First Lady told the initiator who is now retired, adding that whenever the even is held, her name will continue to stand firm a one who gave joy to children of the State.
Mrs. Fashola thanked the management of LTV 8 which has not only kept the Fair alive since it was taken over by the station, but has moved it up and developed it to a very high standard. She later presented to the woman a deep freezer, a Special Recognition Award and N250, 000 cash on behalf of the Lagos Television.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Opeyemi Bamidele, said the Lagos Television has become an enduring aspect of Yuletide celebrations in Lagos adding that apart from being a pioneering fair, it has retained its position as a choice seasonal fair.
“It is important at this occasion, to say that the Lagos Television Christmas Funfair has become an enduring aspect of Yuletide celebrations in Lagos. Apart from being a pioneering fair, it has retained its position as a choice seasonal fair. With a record of over 25, 000 children visiting its Grotto in 2008, LTV Christmas fair will be regarded as a firm entertainment event in Nigeria.
The Commissioner thanked Mrs. Fashola for honouring the invitation to come and flag off the event, adding the First Lady has been a part of the Lagos Television Christmas Funfair for many years.
“This is a testimony of her undying commitment to the enhancement of family values in Lagos State. Together, as we flag off this year’s celebration, it is my honest desire that the joy of the season will abide with us all in Jesus’ Name”.
Congratulating the Management of the station for keeping the Fair alive in the last 25 year, Bamidele declared, “In a nutshell, through this funfair, LTV 8 has articulated the agenda of the Lagos State Government for a vibrant social environment in which the core value of our people is celebrated”.
