Oct 21, 2009 - Lagos First Lady Delivers Another Recreation Centre In Orile-Agege

First Lady of Lagos State and wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, Wednesday handed over yet another recreation centre, the second in two weeks, to the Orile-Agege communities in the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area with a call on corporate organizations to expand the frontier of opportunities for youth development in the State.

Mrs. Fashola, who a fortnight ago handed over a similar centre to the Oworonsoki community in the Kosofe Local Government Area of the State, the greatest need of the youths at the moment are physical development, economic empowerment and education.

She said it is for this purpose that the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) has decided to invest the proceeds of its 2007, 2008 National Women Conference on the construction of thew recreation centres in the two locations for the use of the communities around the locations.

The First Lady commended the Governor of Lagos State for both his interest in the project which he demonstrated by making time out of his very busy schedule to come and commission the projects in a space of two weeks and his support especially the donation of a generating electricity plant to each of the centres.

Mrs. Fashola also paid glowing tribute to the late Oba of Orile Agege, Oba Sodiku Komolafe, whom she said not only gave his blessing when she led a delegation of COWLSO Council members to his palace, but left his palace to visit the site with the members of her entourage..

Urging the communities to ensure the maintenance and cleanliness of the Centre, Mrs. Fashola said that is the only way to reciprocate the gesture and contribute to the healthy environment of the State.

The First Lady expressed gratitude to sponsors of the Committee, including the State Government, pointing out that their support had led to the realization of the projects.

The Centre has a football field, a grand stand, a basket ball court, a gym, children’s playing area, sitting area for the elderly and a hall.
