Mrs. Abimbola Fashola (2nd L), Governor Baba-tunde Fashola SAN (2nd R) and Mrs. Mayowa Ikuforiji (R) being conducted around.Oct 14, 2009 - Commissioning Of Oworonshoki Recreation Centre
Today, we give thanks to God Almighty as we celebrate the completion and commissioning of this recreation centre constructed and donated by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State officials.
On behalf of the entire members of COWLSO, it is my pleasure to welcome our Patron, His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, Governor of Lagos State to this ceremony. We also welcome very warmly Her Excellency, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, the Honourable Speaker, Members of the State Executive Council, Our mother, the initiator of COWLSO, Her Excellency, Mrs. Obafunmilayo Johnson, our Matrons, Body of Permanent Secretaries and other distinguished guests who have come to celebrate with us.
Your Excellency, Oworonshoki Recreation Centre being commissioned today is one of the dividends of 2007 and 2008 National Women Conference. The second project which was also funded from the proceeds is the Orile Agege Recreation Centre which Your Excellency has also graciously accepted to commission next week.
This Centre is to serve the following purposes, educational and recreational needs of the people within this community. It is equipped with the following facilities:
i. a football field
ii. a Grand Stand
iii. a basketball court
iv. a Gym
v. children’s playing arena
vi. sitting area for the elderly and
vii. a hall
It is secured with a perimeter fence, a gate and a gate house for the security personnel.
May, I appeal to the people of this community to make good use of these facilities. Apart from playing football and basketball, professionals within this environment can also organise workshops, seminars on HIV awareness, civic responsibilities, vocational training programmes that will empower, enlighten and educate the youths.
I would like to seize this opportunity to applaud the support and encouragement of the people of Oworonshoki community particularly our Royal Father, His Royal Highness Oba of Oworonshoki whose enthusiasm and excitement about this project was a great source of motivation for us.
I remember, when I led a delegation of COWLSO members to the palace to seek the blessing of His Royal Highness before commencement of this project, His Royal Highness read his address to us from his laptop meaning he is ICT compliant. We will be glad if His Royal Highness will champion the use of this facility for computer literacy programmes for the youths and even the young at heart.
Let me emphasize here that this facility belongs to the people of this community, it is your responsibility to maintain it and ensure that it is kept clean at all times.
We will continue to acknowledge the support and contributions of well meaning individuals and corporate organisations whose generous donations have made this project possible.
Finally, on behalf of the beneficiary communities, may I seek Your Excellency’s kind consideration for the provision of 2 power generating sets for the 2 centres namely Oworonshoki Recreation Centre and Orile Agege Recreation Centre. This will no doubt greatly compliment and enhance the capacity of these facilities to serve the needs of the people.
Once again, I welcome Your Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen.
God bless you all.
Her Excellency
Mrs. Abimbola Fashola
Chairman, COWLSO
