Tonight’s event is no doubt most inspiring, a reminder, as well as a wake up calls to all of us on our duty to humanity particularly the needy and the less privileged. A deep sincere and honest reflection by each and every one of us will reveal the truth in the fact that whatever we have achieved in life is not by our might or power but by the grace of God almighty. And there is no better way we can appreciate or reciprocate this grace of God than by extending same to those who have not been as fortunate as we are.
Caring for the needy and the less privileged is a divine responsibility as profoundly expressed in that bible passage where God likened himself to the sick, hungry and the thirsty men that was not cared for by the people and him.
I believe this is the message our father in the Lord and Patron of this Foundation, Bishop Mike Okonkwo is trying to pass across to us through this Foundation. I commend and congratulate you sir for not only preaching the word but also leading the way in doing the word. I also congratulate the Chairman, Dr. Erastus Akingbola, OON and members of the Board of Trustees for believing in this humanitarian and charitable cause and working so hard to ensure that objectives of this Foundation is realised.
We need to continue to emphasise that when we engage in charitable cause by empowering an individual in need, we are also promoting the peace and security of our society. A little effort on our part as individual will go a long way in complementing whatever our government is doing in this regard as government cannot do it all alone.
I cannot end this brief remark without registering the appreciation of the government and people of Lagos State to the Foundation for the charitable and empowerment programmes, most of which have been concentrated in Lagos State for the past five years. The assistance you have offered to our hospitals and thousands of youths who have benefited from the vocational training and free tutorial classes is well appreciated.
Once again, I congratulate the Patron, chairman and the Board of Trustees, of Empowerment for the Less Privileged Foundation. I pray and hope that this effort will inspire, urge us to be of help to the less privileged in our society and will awaken in us that we have to be our brothers keepers at all times.
Thank you and God bless you all.
Her Excellency
Mrs. Abimbola Fashola
First Lady of Lagos State
