Mar 22, 2009 - Lagos First Lady: Tax Payers Move Lagos Forward

First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, on Sunday declares that tax payers move Lagos State forward when she receives the Global Excellence Recognition award for her roles as the Best First Lady.

Dedicating the award to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), hardworking Executive Council of the State, the Legislative members and judges, Mrs. Fashola solicits continuous tax compliance by Lagosians.

"I will like to dedicate this award to my darling husband, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), to the hard-working Executive Council of Lagos State, to the legislative and to the judges, to all those moving the state forward", Mrs. Abimbola Fashola said.

Expressing her preference for divine rewards instead of awards, the First Lady explained: "If I had known that the event has anything to do with awards, I would not have been here. I don't like receiving awards because whatever you do in life, it is God that pays you back and I believe so much in that."

Acknowledging that every positive effort is useful and needed in Lagos State, Mrs Fashola said it is a consortium of people - civil servants and tax payers - moving Lagos State forward.

“It is not just Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola who is doing it but it is a consortium of all the staff, the civil servants, the permanent secretaries, and everybody who have moved this state forward, good tax payer as well. Those who pay their taxes are the ones moving this state forward.” The First Lady said.

She concluded her award dedication speech by soliciting tax payers to continue their civic responsibility, adding, “Please, keep paying your tax and see the miracle God will do in your life.”

Although First Ladies of Osun State, Mrs. Omolola Oyinlola, and Ogun State, Mrs. Funke Daniels were nominated for the Global Excellence Recognition for the Best First Lady of the Year Award, but Mrs. Abimbola Emanuella Fashola won this category.
