First Lady and wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, at the weekend call for compassion towards the less-privileged in the society, saying that is the only way the privileged could show appreciation for what God has done for them.
Mrs. Fashola, who spoke while leading the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) on a visit to Charity Homes around the State, said there was need for focus on the less privileged in the society, especially the abandoned children and orphans, who, according to her need to be given the opportunity to grow up as useful members of the society.
She said the visit was as a result of a commitment made by COWLSO that at the end of its annual conference, part of the proceeds would be donated to charity as a way to thank God for a successful Conference.
At the Hearts of Gold Orphanage, which was their first port of call, the Mrs. Fashola, on behalf of COWLSO presented to the inmates, which included abandoned children, orphans and disabled children, several items, including clothing, beddings, food items and others.
She prayed that God would sustain the institution, especially the proprietress, who, according to her, has devoted her life to the service of the children of others, adding that the Committee would continually come to the assistance of the institution.
The Proprietress who received and conducted the First Lady and her entourage round the orphanage, thanked Her Excellency and COWLSO for the visit which she described as Divinely Ordained, and prayed God to continue to sustain her and the Committee for greater works of charity in future.
At the Arrow of God Orphanage in Ajah, the first Lady and her team was received on arrival by Matron of the institution, advised the grown up among the children to always obey the rules of the institution as well as their teachers in order to grow up as responsible people in the society.
The First Lady, on behalf of the Committee also donated items which included cloths, food items, baby items and foods. She equally prayed that God would continue to sustain the Home as well as the inmates and the Matron whom she described as a mother in a million.
She said women as mothers should take all children as their own and discharge their responsibilities as mothers to them, irrespective of their parentage. “We were taught as women that we should regard every child as ours and treat them as such”, the First Lady said.
Responding, the Matron thanked Mrs. Fashola and COWLSO for their generous donation, praying God to grant them the grace to continue to look passionately on the less privileged in the society.
The Matron also call on other privileged members of the society to take a cue from the First Lady and COWLSO to extend their generousity to the less privileged as, according to her, they need the help of the society to survive.
