First Lady and wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, has called on parents in the country to ensure regular de-worming and dental care of their children as the only way to ensure emergence of healthy leaders of tomorrow for the country.
Mrs. Fashola, who spoke while carrying out de-worming exercise on some public primary school in the State, said the children need to be de-wormed regularly in order to keep them active and give them the opportunity to grow up as healthy citizens of the country.
Fielding questions from newsmen on the objectives after the exercise which took her through three primary schools, the First Lady declared: “We want healthy children who will grow up to be leaders of tomorrow. We want them to grow up as healthy children who will take over from us”.
“She continued, “We need to protect them because they are the ones who will takeover from us”, adding that the children were also being given dental care.
On the cost implication of the exercise, Mrs. Fashola who said she had no knowledge of that, revealed, “I am only assisting the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation as well as the Education and Health Ministries who, according to her, are the real initiators and motivators of the programme.
On whether or not it would be a continuous exercise, Mrs. Fashola said, “We expect parents and guardians to seize the initiative and take it from here and continue the from where we have stopped. They should continue de-worming their children and giving them dental care on regular bases in order to have the opportunity to grow up as healthy leaders of tomorrow”
