Jan 1, 2009 - The First Baby Of The Year At The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ayinke House

Happy New Year. I give glory to God almighty for giving us the grace to witness the beginning of 2009. I pray that this New Year will bring prosperity and abundant blessings to us, our families, our state and our nation.

We are gathered here on this joyous day to welcome the first baby of the year, and to also express our best wishes to all other babies delivered in the early hours of today.

Ayinke House is very unique not only because of the excellent service it provides as one of the leading maternity hospitals in Lagos State, but also because it is a reference point in philanthropy as demonstrated by late Sir Mobolaji Bank-Anthony who donated it to the State Government to immortalise his late mother. May their gentle souls rest in perfect peace.

I congratulate the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Femi Olugbile, Management and staff of Ayinke hospital on your achievements in 2008 which included the successful delivery of 35 sets of twins and 6 triplets. It is my hope that this New Year will witness greater improvements in healthcare delivery given the number of facilities that have been upgraded in LASUTH and the planned renovation and infrastructural refurbishment in the New Year.

Once again, I congratulate all the doctors, nurses, hospital administrators and other staff for the good job you are doing. I enjoin you to take good care of these precious gifts of God by ensuring that they are breastfed exclusively for the first six months and also adhere strictly to their immunisation schedules.

Finally, on behalf of the babies and their parents, I want to say a big thank you to Vono Products Nigeria Plc for donating baby mattresses to be presented to the baby of the year and other babies delivered in the early hours of today.

I wish everyone the very best in 2009. Thank you and God bless.

Her Excellency
Mrs. Abimbola Fashola
The First Lady of Lagos State
