Mrs. Abimbola Fashola (M) cuddling the first baby of the year 2009 at Ayinke House, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).Jan 1, 2009 - The First Baby Of The Year At The Lagos Island Maternity Hospital
I give glory to God almighty who has given us the grace to see the end of 2008 and also witness the beginning of 2009.
I wish to welcome the first baby of the year who was delivered in this hospital. I congratulate the mother for safe delivery as well as other mothers who have also delivered within the past few hours. I pray that God almighty who has given you these precious gifts will preserve them and make them grow to have a Brighter Rewarding Future.
Lagos Island Maternity is no doubt a pride to Lagos State for the quality of health care services that it has continued to provide. The successful delivery of a set of quadruplets and triplets who were referred from private hospitals last year is a good measure of the services and commitment of the medical officers. I commend and also urge you to keep up the good work.
Once again, I congratulate our first baby of the year and all other babies. My advice to all mothers is to take good care of your children and lay a healthy foundation for them through exclusive breast feeding for the first six months after birth and also ensure that they receive all the necessary immunization at the appropriate time.
Finally, on behalf of the babies and their parents, I want to say a big thank you to Vono Products Nigeria Plc for donating baby mattresses to be presented to the baby of the year and other babies delivered in the early hours of today.
I wish us all a prosperous 2009.
God bless you all.
Her Excellency
Mrs. Abimbola Fashola
The First Lady of Lagos State
