Dec 2, 2008 - Opening Of A 2-Day Protocol And Security Seminar

I feel very much delighted to have in our midst on this occasion, my mentor and the Inspirational Woman of the Year, Her Excellency, Chief (Mrs.) Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady Emeritus and President, New Era Foundation. I welcome you most warmly and also thank you ma, for accepting the invitation to be our Special Guest of Honuor at this seminar on protocol and security for Wives of top Government Functionaries in Lagos State.

This seminar, the first since the inception of this administration 18 months ago has become a tradition which recognises the increasing role of wives of top government functionaries as a stakeholder in the success of any administration. Over the years, in addition to the challenges of keeping the home as wives and mothers, the high status of our husbands either as public officials or public office holders has conferred on us the role of an advocate particularly on issues affecting women and children.

In the process of discharging these responsibilities which in most cases, we have to combine with our individual, we would be expected to be above board in the way we conduct ourselves. This official code of behaviour and mannerism which we have assembled experienced women of diverse professional backgrounds to share with us is the subject matter of this 2-day seminar on protocol and security.

My dear sisters, the essence of this seminar is to make us better individuals and good role models for other people who by virtue of our status hold us in very high esteem. As human beings, we all have our shortcomings. The most important thing however is to identify those shortcomings and make conscious efforts to address them for our own good image and for the sake of the position we occupy as wives of top government functionaries.

Let us take advantage of this opportunity to learn and also resolve to try as much as possible to put into practise everything that we would be taught.

On a final note, I wish to express my profound appreciation to His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN Governor of Lagos State whose support has made this seminar a reality.

Once again, I welcome Your Excellency and everyone here present.

God bless you all.

Her Excellency
Mrs. Abimbola Fashola
The First Lady of Lagos State
