Nov 29, 2008 - 24th LTV Christmas Fair
I am happy to be part of this event marking the formal opening of the 24th Lagos Television Christmas Fair. We give glory to God almighty for His grace and mercies and also for sparing our lives to this moment. We pray that His mercy and favour will continue to be with us in the few weeks remaining of this year and beyond.
I commend the management of Lagos Television under the able, dynamic and resourceful leadership of the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lekan Ogunbanwo for sustaining this event over the years and particularly his commitment and innovative ideas that has sustained this station.
During the formal opening of the 23rd edition of this event last year, the Permanent Secretary made a promise that Lagos Television was going to set a record by becoming the first state-owned television station in Nigeria to be on DSTV. Today, I congratulate the management and staff of Lagos Television on this milestone achievement which has placed our station on the same platform with major television stations that can be accessed worldwide.
This fair no doubt, has become an enduring legacy that signals the beginning of merry season of peace and goodwill. It has become an event which children and families look forward to every year as one major avenue to savour the joy and excitement that usually comes with this season.
As we prepare for the yuletide and look forward to entering another new year, let me use this opportunity to urge every one to do things in moderation. Let us resolve to enter the New Year with a renewed hope and determination to be better citizens by doing everything within our capacity to support the government in its commitment to make the state a better place for everyone.
We as parents should brace up to our responsibilities of giving our children proper upbringing based on sound moral values because we can only consider ourselves as truly accomplished and fulfilled when our children are disciplined and responsible members of the society.
To all the beautiful children, my advice to you is to always be good at all times. Listen to your parents and don’t join bad gangs. Pay attention to your studies and do not engage in any act that will bring shame to you, your parents and family. You are our future and hope for a better and rewarding future.
Once again, I congratulate the management of Lagos Television and everyone present for being part of this event.
With the honour and privilege bestowed on me, I hereby declare open the 24th LTV Christmas fair to the glory of God and benefit of humanity.
God bless you all. Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.
Her Excellency
Mrs. Abimbola Fashola
The First Lady of Lagos State
