Nov 22, 2008 - Flag Off Of Charity Walk Organised By The Courage Education Foundation

It is my pleasure to be a part of this Charity walk being organised by the Courage Education Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, to draw the attention of the general public to the needs of the indigent child in our society. This initiative is in line with the African concept of a mother which sees her as a mother not only to her biological children but also every child around her.

I commend the efforts of Courage Education Foundation for its achievements in its four years of existence particularly the`100 indigent brilliant students that have been put back in school and being cared for as well as the plan to increase the number to 200 next year.

The welfare and future of our children especially the indigent is top on the agenda of the Lagos State Government. One of the ways in which the government is demonstrating its commitment in this regard is the attention that is being given to public schools with the recent distribution of free textbooks and the ongoing rehabilitation work to make the school environment very conducive for learning. This is very important given the role public school play in offering best opportunity for children of the poor to achieve the best they can in life.

As we commence this walk, I call on well meaning citizens, individuals and corporate organisations to support the efforts of Courage Education Foundation to give hope to future generation of our nation who look up to us for survival.

It is on this note that I flag off the Courage Education Foundation charity walk.

God bless you all.

Her Excellency
Mrs. Abimbola Fashola
The First Lady of Lagos State
