Jun 19, 2008 - One Year Anniversary Celebration Of The Alternative High School For Girls
I congratulate the Principal, Staff and Students of the Alternative High School for Girls on this occasion marking the first year anniversary of its establishment.
The introduction of this concept into the school system in Lagos State was no doubt a very laudable and progressive idea that was initiated by Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, President, New Era Foundation. It was based on the recognition of the fact that, a lot of people will achieve their dreams and live a meaningful and fulfilled life if given the opportunity of a second chance.
The theme of this anniversary celebration “Determined to succeed“ clearly captures the whole essence on which the idea of this school was based. Those for whom this school was established falls in the category of young girls who ordinarily for some reasons would have been written off by the society as failures but have the determination to rise above their limitations to realise their ambitions in the area of academics.
We have several examples of man and woman who faced serious challenges in life but ultimately achieved success in life through determination and strong commitment to their goals. We must however recognise the fact that in most cases, the society played a very important role in giving them the opportunities, encouragement and support needed to overcome their challenges. In the long run, the society will be better for it because the more successful and fulfilled the citizens are, the more progressive and developed the society will be.
I want therefore at this point to congratulate all the students of the school for taking the bold and courageous step to keep their dreams of achieving academic excellence alive by taking advantage of this opportunity. I encourage you to continue in your determination because it is a major secret of success in life. I wish you all the very best and God’s guidance.
Finally, I wish to commend the Principal and Staff of the School for their efforts which have made this first anniversary worthy of celebration. I urge you to continue to put in your very best and I pray that God almighty will reward you abundantly.
