Let me start by appreciating God almighty for giving us the grace to witness the New Year. We pray that this year will be a year of fulfilment for our State and everyone of us.
We are here this morning as it is customary to formally welcome the first baby of the year, other babies that were giving birth to in the early hours of today as well as express our best wishes to patients that are receiving treatment on admission in this hospital.
This visit also provides us yet another opportunity to pay glowing tribute to the memory of a foremost philanthropist, Sir Mobolaji Bank-Anthony who donated this facility to immortalize the name of his late mother. May his gentle soul continue to rest in peace.
I am happy to note that this legacy has continued to make giant strides in providing excellent tertiary obstetrics and Gynaecological service not only for Lagosians but also patients that are referred from outside the State. I congratulate all the doctors, nurses and the hospital administrators for the good job you have been doing to sustain the high rating of this facility which I am informed has a capacity of 150 beds and delivers about 3,000 babies annually. I urge you to continue to work hard and renew your commitment to the great service you are giving to humanity.
Once again, I congratulate the mother of the first baby of the year 2008 on her safe delivery. I also congratulate all other mothers who have just had their babies and wish all those on admission a quick recovery.
I enjoin all mothers to take good care of their children and more importantly, ensure that they receive all the necessary vaccinations as and when due.
Finally, on behalf of the babies and their parents, I want to say a big thank you to Aycee Ltd, distributors of Doremi and Eleganza Industries, makers of Eleganza Baby range for donating the baby products to be presented to the baby of the year and other babies delivered in the early hours of today.
