It is a great delight to be here this morning at the Island Maternity Hospital on this first day of the year 2008 to welcome our first baby of the year and also congratulate the lucky parents as well as all the babies that were born in the early hours of this morning.
The news of the birth of a new baby is always received with joy and also marks a new beginning in the life of the child. As we celebrate the birth of our new baby of the year, it is my prayer that this day will mark the beginning of good things in the lives of everyone of us.
As we gather here to welcome our new baby, we also share the joy of this day with all those who for reasons of ill health are unable to celebrate in the comfort of their homes. We pray that God almighty will grant them soonest recovery.
This occasion also gives us an opportunity to appreciate the good work being done by our health personnel who ensures that the health policies and programmes of the government are well implemented for the benefits of all our people. I salute every one of you from the top to the bottom of the ladder and pray that God almighty will continue to give you the strength and the will to continue to discharge your responsibility creditably in the New Year.
Once again, I congratulate the new baby of the year, the parent and all the other babies given birth to in the early hours of today. I pray that they will grow up to become responsible and proud citizens of our State and our country.
Let me remind parents of the need to ensure that our babies receive all the necessary vaccinations so as to protect them against all child killer diseases.
Finally, on behalf of the babies and their parents, I want to say a big thank you to Aycee Ltd, distributors of Doremi and Eleganza Industries, makers of Eleganza Baby range for donating the baby products to be presented to the baby of the year and other babies delivered in the early hour of today.
