It gives me great pleasure to join the President, Mrs. Adefunke Sharon Kasali and members of the Diamond Lights Women Empowerment Association at this year’s annual fund raising dinner. I must commend you for your commitment to lending a hand of support to the less privileged women in the society.
As you are aware, this year’s annual National Women Conference organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) ended last week. One of the major outcome of this particular conference with the theme “Setting Your Goals, making it Happen” was the emphasis placed on the need for us as women to be more proactive and offer support to one another in the fight against poverty which as we speak ranks as the greatest challenge facing the feminine gender. A lot have been said about the importance of empowering women because of the crucial role we are capable of playing in moving the society forward in terms of socio-economic development.
Now, it is time for us as women to take our destiny in our own hands by being our sisters keeper. I am happy to note that this is the example being demonstrated by Diamond Lights Women Empowerment Association and for which I want to commend you all. A lot can be achieved if we all come together and support ourselves especially those who are less privileged, in not only discovering their potentials, but also giving the necessary support to actualise the potentials.
Education is key to women empowerment because it is the only potent weapon against ignorance which breeds poverty among other social ills. I therefore want to applaud the effort of the Association in encouraging girl child/women education through scholarship scheme, in support of which this fund raising dinner has been organised. I enjoin everyone here present to support this effort by contributing generously to this fund rising.
Once again, I commend the Diamond Lights Women Empowerment Association and wish you all the best in your efforts.
