I am very delighted to be in your midst today on the occasion of this very important fund raising event of Soroptimitst International of Lagos Mainland for its Critical Care project which is in line with its theme for the year, “The Right to Life”.
Let me commend the President, Soroptimist Nadia Bashir-Bello and the entire members of Soroptimist International of Lagos Mainland for your commitment to the organisation’s ideal especially in caring for the less privileged in the society.
I wish to particularly commend you for focussing your attention on this particular project which, I am informed is aimed at taking care of the needs of indigent patients in the Accident and Emergency Department of Teaching Hospitals and General Hospital in Lagos State.
One of the fundamental rights which every human being is entitled to is the right to life. Initiatives such as this, which has the objective of safeguarding this right against any condition or circumstances that may jeopardise its realisation is a meritorious and humanitarian act which will not only complement government effort but also will be greatly rewarded by God almighty. Humanity is not immuned against accident and emergencies because they are part of the challenges of life. The most important thing which we all must work towards accomplishing is the development of effective strategies and procedures which will ensure that victims of such occurrences receive prompt and adequate care irrespective of their socio-economic status.
As you are aware, this is the essence of the various initiatives of the State Government including LASEMS, LASAMBUS as well as the Accident and Emergency units which offer free medical service for victims within the first 24 hours of their admission.
I urge everyone to support this very laudable initiative of Soropmist International of Lagos Mainland. By so doing we will be contributing towards saving the precious lives of our fellow brothers and sisters in need of care.
Once again, I commend the President and members of Soroptimist International of Lagos Mainland and wish you a very successful fund raising in all your efforts.
