Oct 5, 2007 - Commissioning Of Items Donated By The Orientation Camp Rehabilitation
I am very delighted to be here today on this occasion of the official commissioning of items donated by the Orientation Camp Rehabilitation (OCR) to the Lagos State NYSC temporary Orientation Camp.
When I was informed about this event some few days ago, I felt a deep sense of joy which was motivated by the uncommon initiative that is being demonstrated by this group of young Nigerians. More importantly, this event is giving us a reason to be hopeful for a better future in which everyone will think more of what he or she can contribute, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to making the society a better place for all including generations coming behind.
It is on this note that I want to thank the President and members of OCR, a community development group of the Lagos State NYSC for the donation of the items being commissioned today which I am informed includes:
1. Cleaning services for 22 days
2. Fire extinguishers for each floor
3. Repair of P.A. system
4. Dumpsters, dust bins and waste disposal by LAWMA 3 times a week
5. 2000 care packages for Youth Corpers
6. Common area for youth corpers supplied with newspapers, magazines, games and office supplies
7. Volleyballs and footballs for all platoons.
These items will no doubt contribute to making the camp environment more healthy, safe and comfortable for youth corpers especially those who will participate in the 2007 Batch B orientation course.
I wish to use this opportunity to appeal to individuals and corporate organisations to take a cue from this laudable initiative of OCR by complementing government efforts through voluntary donations.
I cannot end this remark without applauding the leadership and members of the Lagos State NYSC for the active participation in the monthly environmental sanitation advocacy. Thank you very much.
