Oct 4, 2007 - 4th Annual Lecture Of Alaba Olajide Foundation

I feel honoured to be here today and be part of this very important lecture series organised by the Alaba Olajide Foundation in memory of Mrs. Alaba Olajide.

Let me commend the initiator of the Foundation and everyone who has contributed to the success of this lecture series which I believe is a befitting memorial in honour of Mrs. Alaba Olajide who while on the earth planet made her mark not only as a mother but also as a grassroot politician, activist and philanthropist. The cream of distinguished personalities who, I am informed participated in previous series of this lecture is a testimony to the greatness of Mrs. Alaba Olajide and measure of her contribution to the socio-economic and political development of our nation.

Even though, she is no more, her ideals and ideas remain evergreen and will continue to serve as a reminder and guide to all of us in our common quest to enthrone good governance by which good quality of life can be guaranteed for our people.

The theme for this year’s lecture: “Women – The Baseline to Eradicating Corruption our Wholistic Strata” is no doubt very relevant especially at this time when there is a common resolve to free our nation from the shackles of corruption. As a major stakeholder and more importantly given the fact that women in most cases suffer more the consequences of corruption, there is need for us to play a key role in every effort that is geared towards eradicating it from every facet of our life.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, once again, I want to commend the founder and all members of the Foundation for their efforts in keeping the ideals of late Mrs. Alaba Olajide alive through this annual lecture series. May her soul continue to rest in peace.

I thank you for your kind attention. God bless you all.

Her Excellency
Mrs. Abimbola Fashola
First Lady of Lagos State
