Sep 11, 2007 - Annual Faculty Of Radiology Day
It gives me great pleasure to be part of this important occasion of the annual Faculty Day of the Faculty of Radiology which I am informed, is one of the sixteen faculties under the umbrella of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
I congratulate the Chairman and members of Faculty Board and also commend the initiators of this idea which affords the faculty the opportunity of showcasing its potential while also raising awareness on the importance and relevance of radiology as a specialised branch of medicine.
It is very heart-warming that the organisers of this event have chosen to focus attention of this year’s event on the issue of professionalism. The attainment of high level of professionalism especially in specialised disciplines such as radiology which I am informed, is involved in the medical use of iodizing radiation cannot be over emphasised. There is therefore the need to continuously educate members particularly on safe and judicious handling of ionizing radiation in line with internationally accepted standard.
One major way of sustaining professionalism is to ensure effective mechanism for monitoring and control. This will be greatly enhanced if members are educated on the need to register business premises where ionizing radiation is used. Strict adherence to this procedure will also go a long way in safeguarding the health of the society as well as preventing unqualified practitioners from infiltrating the profession.
Mr. Chairman, distinguished members of the Faculty Board, I want to congratulate you once again on this occasion of your Faculty Day and also wish you fruitful and rewarding deliberations.
I thank you for your kind attention, God bless you all.
Her Excellency
Mrs. Abimbola Fashola
First Lady of Lagos State
